| http://www.gamescience.com/ Watch the videos and be amazed Tyrant Swabs Now I often change my die during high or low rolls, now I know this does nothing, except annoy my opponent when it works. I think psychology has a major part to play in all competitive games. Do you use psychology in games? i.e.smack talk and the like. I have also been looking into getting a dice tower, as I have seen the way some people roll, and I most pertubed by what I have seen. You get the "Droppers" the "Long throw" and the worst "How many of your models can I hit? and destroy you psychologically" And the plain cheating " Spinners" Have you guys tried the water test out with your die? you might be surprised by the results. Or am I taking it all too seriously :p | |

| Of course I use psychology in wargaming. everyone does, without exception.
Horde armies, like Skaven, take huge slabs of troops. Those troops are utterly worthless and can be effortlessly swatted by elite troops no matter how many rats there are, but the intimidation factor of these huge armies is designed to make the enemy overestimate their usefulness and divert attention away from the parts of your army capable of hurting them. Such armies then have the occasional huge charismatic monster (Doomwheels, Hellcannons etc.) which do the same thing using a different method, so your opponent becomes uncertain which requires the most prompt attention (and how much attention to divert: in 40k I had a guy panic an entire shooting phase into taking out two piranhs when he could (and indeed should) have just ignored them and piled into the objectives.
Elite armies also use psychology to get what they want. Once you've faced a squad of High Elf Swordmasters of Hoeth, your response next time is "ZOMG! Great Weapons that still always strike first, re-roll to hit, kill my troops on 2s, have more than one attack and are highly unlikely to run away even if I can somehow finagle the combat resolution in my favour!", and you avoid combat with them, allowing their player to use them to herd your troops around like sheepdogs to set up favourable charge lanes and firing positions. And if the enemy troops get uppity and attack, you smack them so hard their battle line falls apart anyway.
It even works in other game systems. Take Cryx in Warmachine. My Khador career basically boils down to "shuffle forward a bit, the entire Cryx army leaps over to you in one turn and gets every single part of your army debuffed beyond uselessness, spend the rest of the battle swatting the odd mechanithrall or satyxis because you're no longer physically capable of taking out anything harder." Then the Mechanithralls get back up... The effect is to encourage you to be so demoralised that you fail to see the few remaining opportunities to succeed that remain to you.
War Games have psychological warfare built into them, and players who can effectively use psychology (and have the tactical skill to back them up) have the advantage.
In conclusion, psychology encourages your enemy to make mistakes you can exploit. Some armies require your opponent to make mistakes if you are to win. It can suck when you're on the wrong end of it, but it's not unfair.
Cheating on dice is unfair, of course. And unnecessary. The Dice hate us all with equal spite and venom, so it balances out.

| Addendum:
Those glow-in-the-dark green dice would be awesome Warpstone dice.
