| Here's an idea
How about an ongoing campaign for 40K?
The story of a war over a city, world or system perhaps?
Any army could be conceivably woven into the story.
Perhaps they could write an initial list of say 10,000 points. An entire chapter of space marines, an imperial guard division, a chaos warband Units could be tracked through the campaign- once destroyed they would be destroyed removed from the campaign.
Games could be a fixed at 2000 points with the setup and nature of the game determined by the storyline.
Perhaps there would be a list of strategic sites that might be battled over? Players could be organised into teams but perhaps alliances might change!
Players could fight to achieve certain objectives- Ork player- capture and hold the manufacturing site for three months.
Space marine- capture hqs from each enemy force.
Turns could be monthly- or quarterly. Perhaps all players could agree to play one game within that time or perhaps have a specific week set aside each month.
The campaign could be played over a number of months with battle reports and campaign news published on the forum.
Any thoughts? | |

| Hi Andy, liking the idea of a campaign, though I would probably start with smaller armies, plus the main problem would be making sure we had enough players who would be interested in taking part & were able to be at the club at a regular basis, as some people can't be there all the time - i.e some guys can only do Mondays & not Thursday & vice-versa. Saying that I would definatly be interested in helping you organise it at some point. | |

| Point taken- lets see how much interest this thread generates.
I know you've got another knock out competition in the pipeline so I wouldn't want to start it before then anyway!

| I would definitely be interested.
Loads of good ideas being put forward:
I like the fact that the turns are spread out on a monthly/quarterly basis given I can only make the club on a monthly basis myself.
Army size for each battle could be randomly generated : 1500, 2000, 2500 or 3000 points are all playable in an evening. Troops to be selected from a master roster of 10,000 points that obviously wouldn't need to be restricted to FOC.
You could also build in a method for units to gain experience from their battles as well as destroyed altogether - there was guidance on this in the old 4th Edition rulebook that could be adapted. I'm assuming that as long as one figure from a unit survived the game that it could be reformed? Would encourage tactical withdrawals?
Games can be Planetstrike, Cities of Death or standard (I think you could plan for some sort of Apocalyptic game for the culmination of the campaign!!) This would help those of us without access to SHT, Titans etc.
Theme ideas for the pot:
1. Depending on participants you could have a world turned to chaos (i.e. IG would be renegade and allied to Daemons who'd of course have their own agenda - and also troops that wouldn't get destroyed as they're only banished to the warp after all!!) and the forces of good (or more likely anti-chaos) would be tasked with suppressing the rebellion? 2. Ork Waagh!! with various rival warlords joining together to crush a world and get the better of the overlord!
Hope this helps. | |

| Thanks George,
Sounds like we're thinking along similar lines.
I'd like to keep it as streamlined as possible- nothing kills a campaign for me more than having to do a load of number crunching paperwork at the end of every battle so I'm not sure about experience.
I think that the army lists might reflect the increasingly limited nature of technology.
For example Imperial guard leaders might have a limitless pool of basic guardsmen and lasguns- but perhaps only 20 plasma guns. Once they're gone, they're gone for good!
Tanks and terminator armour too might be of a very limited nature. Only 5 land raiders for example and limited numbers of power armour might work.
Greater daemons, soul grinders, blood crushers etc might also be limited while lesser daemons are limitless.
As for a campaign idea- it would be good to get at least three sides so that we might have some sneaky alliances and three way battles going on.
Having say 2500 points of space marines against 1500 points of chaos marines and 1500 points of orks might make for an awesome game...
A world already contested between orks, chaos and loyal guard with space marines arriving to support might be interesting... the eldar could also turn up- with an agenda and a list of objectives of their own...
Which army do you play by the way and which night - mon or thurs- do you go on?

| when would this be on becaus ei'm currently doing a role play campain which will last between 5-10 weeks longer. i would be up for that but ive only got between 900-1500pnts but after x-mas i will proably have a little more . if this is to small then fine. an idea might be small imperial planet. ork attack. space marines arrive. chaos try to corrupt space marine/ig's. anything else written in. if these catogories are all fine then i would be happy to help, and fight. | |

| It might be more fun... though more problematic... if everyone had a particular force, with named characters and perhaps some named units/tanks etc that could be tracked across the campaign.
So kills, victories and defeats could feature in the storyline.
Also those with less points could join forces with others to play games.
If we do it, I think we'll be starting in January. That should give us time to plan out the campaign, forces, rules etc.
