I've been using snow bases on my Khador and Bretonnians. I started experimenting by just using PVA and painting it white once it's dry, but it doesn't work. I do recommend getting snow flock. I've got GW's, but I dare say you can find cheaper stuff elsewhere.

Just be aware that it requires more than one application, or it'll look like mould rather than snow. My method is:
1) dab PVA down, stick the snow on. Once it's dry, it looks like mould.
2) Paint the mould white.
3) Re-apply snow over the white.

Et Voila! You now have the texture of snow, with a decent white colour.

How liberally will you be applying it? I tend to do a sand layer and paint it to be rough mud, then apply it in patches of varying sizes to it looks like it's midway through thawing or just hasn't completely covered the ground yet (I find it better: it puts variety on the bases and they don't look too out of place if the board you are playing on isn't snowy), but I dare say it'll work just fine if the entire base is snowy.

if you don't want to go for the gw snow flock, you need to invest in some "bicarbonate of soda" you'll find it in supermarkets in the home baking area, not to be confused with baking soda , two different things. mine cost 89p did 2400 pts plus movement trays with 1/2 tub

instructions;

mix the bicarb with pva glue (cheap and nasty stuff, wood glue will make the snow turn yellow and nobody wants yellow snow!!)you want a thick grainy paste, add a little white paint emulsion or kids stuff is good, this helps give some depth, if your glue dries too clear you''ll have dandruff bases.
Dab some white paint where you want the snow to fall , then dab your paste, to finish dust some more bicarb and shake off the excess et voila, i'll be at the club tonight hanging aroun i'll bring a movement tray

Hello all just wondering if anyone could help me with what colours they think are used when painting these models as this is the sort of result I'm looking for. Skin? fur ? blue cloth ?.
