| As a farewell to 7th Edition and to mark the Football World Cup, I am planning a very special tournament. The Tournament - Just like the World Cup, the tournament begins with a group stage, with four players in each group. 3pts are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and 0pts for a loss. VPs will be used to break ties. Each group will be drawn at random but seeding will be used to prevent groups being overloaded by our regular tournament players. Nevertheless, I hope for a group of death! Our hope is that we can get four groups. The top two from each group will qualify for the knock-out phase. Armies - You choose a "squad" of 2500 pts. This does not need to be a legal army list in any sense. For each battle you fight in the tournament, once you know your opponent, you construct a legal 2000 pts "team" from your "squad." You can change your team each game, but you cannot change your squad. Note that you may substitute units in and out of the team, but you may not alter the composition of units or the build of characters. Battles - Pitched battles. Composition - No restrictions. Prizes - due to the complaint about the lack of silverware at Legionary, there will be a bonafide TROPHY for the tournament winner! In addition to the overall winner's trophy, there will also be an award for the player who scores the most amount of VPs in the group stage of the World Cup. As it is only based on the VPs from the group stage, all players have a fair stab at winning. Cost - £2 entry to cover cost of the prize(s) When? Once I have a list of interested names I can put together the draw. I really want to start within the next few weeks but I will avoid clashing with the 40k knockout tourney in its early stages. What next? If you want to be a part of this, post your name and army and I will add you to this list of entrants: 1) Rob Farmer - Wood Elves 2) Owen Farmer - Empire 3) Ben "the Cushion" Cushion - Lizardmen 4) Martyn Cooper - Lizardmen 5) Andi Avery - Moot Militia 6) Rich Ayson - Skaven (tbc) 7) Andy White - Warriors of Chaos 8 Ed Matson - Tomb Kings 9) Swabs - Orcs and Goblins 10) Ed Breddy - Warriors of Chaos 11) Guy Ringham - Daemons of Chaos 12) Max Ayson - Dark Elves 13) Derek Smith - Vampire Counts 14) Dave (sorry, I don't know your surname) - Warriors of Chaos 15) Rob Harvey (tbc) - Vampire Counts 16) Lee Stubbs - High Elves

Clearly you have not faced Waaaaagh!!! Swabs. I have not comped the tournament for three reasons: 1) It's a farewell to 7th Edition and all it stood for, including filth. 2) The ability to tailor lists for your opponent gives you a chance to counter cheese. (Bloodthirster? I'll pack in an extra cannon for this one.) 3) I want to bring Orion. (One of these reasons may not be true.)

| We now have 14 players who have expressed an interest and there are three more possibles, so it is likely we will soon have our 16 players (for our four groups of four.)
Great stuff. | |

| We currently have 15 players, which is brilliant. One more would be perfect.
The draw for the group stage will take place on Thursday 20th May (ie. this week) at the end of the evening. The draw will be posted on this forum.
Seeding will be based on the league results from last year, with one seed in each group. As things stand given the current entries the seeds are myself, Andi, Derek and Swabs.
Games in the group stages are to be played as a round robin at the discretion and convenience of the four players. The results for each game should be passed to myself or Owen. All we will need to know is who won and the VPs on both sides.
If you have any questions regarding this or how to put together your army, post, PM or just ask me at the club.
