| For the release of 8th Edition I am thinking that starting a Fantasy army is a must. This is where I have hit a wall. . . what army do I choose There are so many cool looking armies with nice looking minis Now everyone please vote on your all time favourite warhammer army with reasons why you love them so and try and persuade me to see the same Thanks for the help | |

| Well Skaven, Warriors of Chaos, empire and Dark elves will probably be the top armies. With ogre kingdoms, orc and goblins, high elves, lizardmen, vampires, dwarfs and beastmen not far behind them. The army you want to play will just depend if you want to shoot, magic, or combat your enemy to death.
Heavy magic: Lizardmen Heavy hitting: Beastmen, Warriors of Chaos, Vampires, Ogre Kingdoms Heavy shooting: Dwarfs, empire
All rounders: dark elves, high elves, orcs and goblins (they will be random though), skaven.
High elves and skaven may be the way to go tbh as the new box set will have these models so you could probably get an army together fairly cheaply when people start to sell off the models on ebay.

| Go with Ogres. Plenty of character and cool models. Eighth makes them viable again.
Don't go with Vampires, they are simply boring; ask Rob Harvey if you don't believe me... | |

| On top of the character argument. . . they are (I believe cheaper as you need less models for an army?) Am I wrong about this? I dont know much about 8th Ed ,havnt quite got through my new White Dwarf yet, Iv played a couple of games of 7th Ed with my tiny Bretonnians but I dont like the painting of the Knights and I am not really loving the "samey" feel of the army. (If this makes any sense)

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Empire, Empire, Empire!
They are the true jack of all trades, master of none of the warhammer World. The things I like about the empire is there ability to have the tools to take on any army out there (Cannons, Helblasters & Steam Tanks.) You can do so much with an Empire army:-
1) Go all out Infantry army 2) An all cavalry army 3) A army of Sigmar, Arch lector, warrior priests and Flagellants 4) Beat the Dwarfs at their own game and run a gun line
Unlike other armies (Such as Dwarfs, VCs and Daemons) the Empire can take part in every phase of the game. They can be frustrating to use at times because there psychology and it will let you down from time to time. However, when the army works there not much out there that can stop the march of the Empire.
Do the right thing and Vote Empire!

| Wow, nice answer I am a fan of the idea of the Empire, the jack of all trades master of none, but they are men!! I want to do an "alien" race, a non human race to allow for interesting paint schemes and conversions Thanks for the answer though!! | |

| i have about 2k worth of vamps i could sell u some painted mostly not thought just undercoated. Im sure in the right hands vamps are good i just dont like their play style although in 8th they might be better with the hordes rule and lots of skellies. Id say they were fairly easy to use as a beginner too. But if u dont like the idea of raising zombies all the time and raising unit etc dont bother i got bored of it. Also vamps dont have any shooty stuff but magic wise there good and blood knights are crazy when tooled up!! But again its down to style of play i find them repetative and boring but im sure Derick or Martin would disagree, bearing in mind im a noob! If u want u could borrow mine i dont mind (bearing in mind id be open to offers to sell ) 1 mounted lord - undercoated 1 mounted vamp - undercoated 1 vamp on foot - painted 1 necromancer - painted 25 skellies - made up 20 painted 20 skellies - boxed 60 zombies - undercoated 20 grave guard - half painted 5 blood knights - 1 painted rest undercoated 6 fell bats - undercoated but stands broke (need proper bases anyway) 10 wolves - undercoated 3 black knights assembled and army book | |

| time for furkind to get involved don`t listen to anyone unless they sqeek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! empire allround army champions pah the mighty skaven out hit,out fight and out magic them in every phase (maybe out flee as well )shooting well the doom wheels a must think of it as a cannon with impact hits and a unit breaker in combat, jezzails will stop any heavy armoured cav sending them into the abyss(or maybe just themselves)then you`ve got the glourius skaven special magic, the chance to cast the dreaded 13th spell should be enough on its own but if you want more just think verminlord or thanquol legends in there own right.and wot other army gives you the chance to rattling gun your own troops on the off chance youmight kill the enermy ah slaves there to be abused combat not the furry strongest point but cheap clanrats mean you can send out 50 strong units for 240pts with a full comand and tool it up with a weapon team then bring in the plague censer bearers, point for point the hardest unit in warhammer world toughness tests 3 attacck each @ st5 frenzied and hatred death unit if ever i saw one then you have the real toys one word HELLPIT!!!!!!!!!! or 2, plague furnace, screaming bell, warp cannons, doomwheels and a good old fashion catapult all in all inject a squirt of fear into the enermy and may the blessings of the horned rat be upon you
they may blow themselves up nearly as much as the enermy and when they flee they usually dont come back but hey thats the skaven way soooooooo much fun to be had | |

| Rob: Thanks for the offer but I have heard lots of people saying that Vampire Counts play in quite a boring and repetitive way. However tempting it is to be in control of a horde of zombies and skellies with Vampires leading the horde I stopped playing my Khorne Marine Army for the reasons of they are so repetitive. Rich: Skaven do sound right up my street as a non-human army. On top of this they are in the new box set coming out in September which is good news for getting a quick and cheap army. But just a quick question how many models am I going to have to paint to get an army on the table On top of this, just wondering how easy to paint the warmachines are such as he doom wheel and the bell. Its just I get very frustrated very easily. Painting is not something I am very good at and if I cant paint something I dont like it. . . sounds stupid (it is stupid) but that is just how I work. | |

| ogre kingdoms can be a good army but they take a while to get used to, they are very hard hitting (almost the whole army does impact hits) and with 3 wounds each they take alot to kill. also the bruiser which is a hero choice can go toe to toe in combat with most lord choices from other armies. the main thing with ogres is you will always be out numbered as for painting they are a simple army to paint as the models are fairly big. hope this was helpful. | |

| Lizardmen are pretty much magic heavy though you can go combat heavy with less successful results but a Oldblood on Carnosaur is a awesome model to have. See left <---
In 8th ed, I don't think they are going to change position much in terms of tier. Probably staying around 2nd tier though some armies might jump ahead of them.
In all the Slann will be the centre of your army with Saurus warriors and skinks to support and protect the Slann. Normally in 7th ed the Slann was always taken in a Temple Guard bunker unit which would protect him. Now its better to go with a lone Slann due to the nastiness of the new miscast table. You can upgrade the Slann with all sorts of goodies such as give him all spells from 1 lore, extra power dice etc
You have Saurus Warriors which are our main rank and file unit, they are tough (T4) and can dish out a lot of attacks while taking it themselves. Skinks are weak but agile and fast and are mainly used in thier skirmish form providing really the only shooting that Lizardmen have. Terradons are our flying unit and can drop rocks on enemy heads and fly into woods which no other flying unit can. Stegadons are our big monsters dishing out pain and causing terror. Though in 8th ed they have been somewhat nerfed due to the new LOS rule but have been improved with extra attacks. Salamanders are our "artillery" unit able to spit fire and now with no partial hits for template weapons they are going to cause even more pain then before. | |

| Both Matt and Ben thanks a lot. Both very useful and have helped lots with the decision making. Just wondering does anyone know whether or not Ogres are getting a new Army Book any time soon. Its just, in the new white dwarf there is some Ogre artwork with things I have not seen such as what looks like a Rhinox Chariot. | |
